- Contents - in layman's terms, those items which are not "bolted" to the walls so are not part of a structure
- Liability Limit - the amount of coverage selected by the insured in case of suit
- Medical Payments - the amount of coverage selected to cover medical injury of a person who is on your property whether invited or not
- Flood - defined as rising water not water damage from a water pipe bursting, for example
- Binding Authority - Some companies give their agents the authority to bind coverage; other do not. For example, Citizens Property Insurance gives no agent in Florida the authority to bind coverage or to issue evidence of insurance on such.
- Hip Roof - a roof with four sides; considered more wind resistant
- Gable Roof - a roof with a pitch that is in the shape of a capital A
- Independent Agent - An agent tht represents (is "appointed") by several companies and is authorized to sell and service their products for a commission
- Captive Agent - An agent that is obligated to write for a certain company and is issued quotas tomeet by that company
- CBRA Flood Zone - an area that has not been designated eligible for the National Flood Insurance Program and in which property owners who wish to get flood insurance must report to private flood insurance
- Flood Zone - an area designated by the NFIP to be an "A" or a "V" zone is considered to be a special flood zone hazard area. An area designated "X" is a preferred zone.
- Mitigation Factor - discounted premiums due to use of more stringent building elements such as shutters
